Family Dysfunction–The Children of Substance Abusers

It has been said that every family is dysfunctional in some way.  Some are less so and some are more so, but no family works perfectly at all times.  In families affected by substance abuse, the dysfunction and harm can be devastating, especially to the children involved.

In this month’s issue of Emotional Wellness Matters, some of the most consistent and hurtful symptoms and unhealthy roles are addressed and explained.  The dysfunctional behavior and thought patterns that are learned in childhood and adolescence are often carried with us into our adulthood and our adult relationships, causing problems that are even more far-reaching.
