A Word about Keeping a Gratitude Diary
I’ve known for years about the value of keeping a gratitude diary. I’ve even recommended it to clients, but I have never consistently done it myself until this year. (You know you should do as I say and not as I do!)
It is so helpful in so many ways! It helps offset anxiety and allows us to focus on the many positives in our lives, not the negatives. It reminds us that we are not the center of the universe and that there are untold numbers of people and factors that enable us to do what we do and be who we are!
The journal I use is pictured above and includes some wonderful quotes about gratitude. Here are just a few:
“Some people grumble that roses have thorns; I am grateful that thorns have roses.”
Alphonse Karr
“If you observe a really happy man, you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden, or looking for dinosaur eggs in the Gobi Desert. He will not be searching for happiness as if it were a collar button that has rolled under the radiator.
W. Beran Wolfe
“Got no checkbooks, got no banks,
Still I’d like to express my thanks.
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night.”
Irving Berlin
“Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them, the rest of us could not succeed.”
Mark Twain
“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
A. A. Milne
“The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings.”
Eric Hoffer
“This is a wonderful day. I’ve never seen this one before.”
Maya Angelou
