Play Therapy
Play therapy makes a difference. Although play is an enjoyable, fun activity that elevates our spirits and brightens our outlook on life, it is more than just that for children. Play is a child’s natural and first language and helps them to learn about the world and express themselves, and anything that might be troubling them.
What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate form of counseling where licensed professional counselors trained in play therapy utilize the therapeutic powers of play to help children address and resolve their problems. Play therapy builds on the natural way that children learn about themselves and their relationships in the world around them and helps them work through emotional and behavioral difficulties.
Unlike adults, who talk about their problems and come to solutions verbally, children act out their problems. Dr. Gonzales uses a child-centered play therapy model to create a safe relationship and environment between herself and the child, thus allowing them to express what is troubling them more naturally and freely.
